01The problem

Hungarian webshops compete on price on Árukereső, the country's main price comparison site. Most of them check competitors by hand, a few products at a time. The established monitoring tool is priced for larger shops and expects you to paste in a link for every product you want to watch, and Árukereső's own search can't look a product up by barcode.

Distributors have the mirror-image problem: they want to see how resellers price their brands, and today that means someone clicking through listings.

02What I built

ÁrFigyelő is a self-serve web app. You upload your product list as a spreadsheet; it finds each product on Árukereső by barcode or item number, collects every competitor's offer, and refreshes the whole catalogue every day.

  • A dashboard that shows, per product, whether you're the cheapest, mid-field or the most expensive, with your margin and the cheapest rival.
  • Price history per competitor, and a cautious price suggestion that respects your margin floor. It only advises; it never reprices anything.
  • Alerts when someone undercuts you, when your margin drops below your threshold, or when the cheapest competitor runs out of stock.
  • For distributors, monitoring of recommended retail prices across resellers.
  • A daily to-do list, Excel exports, and a 14-day trial on four plans from 11,990 to 109,990 Ft a month.

03How I built it

Next.js and Supabase, with row-level security so each company can only ever read its own rows. Scheduled jobs run on Inngest. Prices come from my own collector, a real Chrome browser on a rented server, because Árukereső's bot protection blocks headless browsers. A paid scraping service is the fallback.

AI coding agents wrote the code. The decisions that mattered were mine:

  • Matching products on a confidence ladder: barcode first, then manufacturer part number plus brand, then fuzzy title matching. Anything uncertain goes to a review screen where a person confirms it, because one wrong match spoils every comparison after it.
  • Monitoring recommended prices, never enforcing them. Pressuring resellers to hold a minimum price is resale price maintenance, which Hungarian competition law forbids, so the product and its copy only ever report.
  • Pricing 40–55% below the established tool, and refreshing every product every day on every plan once running my own collector made that cheap enough.

04Results

Live at arfigyelo.com since July 2026. Six companies have signed up so far, and the system tracks more than 2,000 products. Break-even is around six paying accounts, at a 65–80% gross margin.

05What's next

Turning trials into paying accounts, and adding more marketplaces. Árgép, eMAG and Alza are next on the list.
